Protests in Honduras

Three weeks ago a teachers' strike began in Honduras that has now escalated into a serious stability problem for President Lobo's government. While teachers and education issues remain a key part of the protest, other social issues have been included. The FNRP has begun using the protests as a new platform to protest the legitimacy of the government as a whole.

The Honduran government has been rather inept at managing the protests. They have pushed forward with their proposed education reform in defiance of the teachers' unions. Security forces have been accused of using excessive force against protesters and journalists covering the protesters.
