Crossing the street into the 21st century

Michelle Buchanan recalls an exchange that took place years ago when a Department of Energy team was in town to review some science programs at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

While touring lab research facilities, one of the review team members exclaimed, "Oh, this looks so familiar."

Buchanan, associate lab director for physical sciences, asked the visiting scientist if she used to work at ORNL. "No," the visitor replied, "but I did my graduate work in the Ukraine back in the 1960s."
